Business Law & Financial Services

The interests of finance and businesses touch upon virtually every aspect of legal practice.  From large established corporations and financial services providers to emerging business ventures, from large firms and in-house counsel to solo practitioners, today’s lawyers must consider increasingly complex issues which impact the conduct of both large and small businesses and financial markets.

Financial services law encompasses the representation of companies in many forms, including closely held and publicly traded companies, financial institutions such as banks and investment banks, and institutional investors such as pension and mutual funds.  Successful business law practitioners are skilled at serving a variety of clients’ needs ranging from corporate formation, to finance, to compliance with regulatory requirements.

The Business Law and Financial Services Concentration provides students with an opportunity to develop legal skills relevant to the world of business and finance.  The Concentration features advanced law courses on business associations, securities regulation, corporate, commercial, taxation, and banking law to supplement the Law School’s general curriculum.  The Concentration provides both day and evening students the opportunity to distinguish themselves in these fields.  Students with no prior background in the corporate and financial sectors may enroll in the Concentration and develop areas of strength while in law school.  Professionals with an undergraduate degree or work background in business or finance may use the Concentration to compliment their experience and open up new career opportunities upon graduation.

Suffolk University Law School’s central location in Boston, near both the Financial District and federal and state corporate regulatory agencies, places students just steps away from leading financial services corporations, governmental offices, numerous multinational, national and small businesses, and the law firms that specialize in serving them.

The Business Law and Financial Services Concentration was established to offer students the ability to pursue serious studies in these exciting and ever-changing fields.  Designed to appeal to a broad array of interests and corporate practice areas, the Concentration is committed to providing a solid education in the academic underpinnings of business and finance law.
