TRIAL AND APPELLATE ADVOCACY CONCENTRATION

Suffolk University Law School has a strong multifaceted program to prepare students to be trial and appellate lawyers. The Trial and Appellate Advocacy Concentration is at the heart of an array of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to hone one's skills for success in the courtroom. Students participate in a wide variety of moot court competitions within the school and across the country, and there are opportunities to participate on our trial team or in several trial competitions. Our clinical program is highly rated nationally and provides opportunities for intensive courtroom experience in several areas of law. The strength of the outstanding education provided to those seeking to enter the field of litigation is among the most prominent reasons that students attend Suffolk University Law School. A century long tradition in preparing many of the best lawyers and most prominent judges has earned Suffolk a reputation for excellence in this cornerstone of legal practice.

The Trial and Appellate Advocacy Concentration is designed to recognize those exceptional students who have focused their studies in the advocacy area and have excelled. The requirements for the Concentration are rigorous, and those students who take the challenge will be among the best-trained law school graduates in the courtroom.

The Concentration includes five required core courses and participation in a clinical program or supervised internship approved by the Concentration Faculty Director. The Concentration further requires students to choose three electives from an extensive menu of litigation related courses in various areas of substantive law.  The core courses provide general litigation skills and the internship or clinical experience gives students the opportunity to apply classroom learning in the real world with clients. Electives allow students to focus on areas of law that correspond to individual interests.

We are constantly striving to improve our trial and appellate advocacy curriculum to stay ahead of changes in law and technology. The program relies on resident faculty with extensive experience as successful litigators, complemented by experienced and highly regarded lawyers and judges from Massachusetts. We encourage students to take advantage of the Trial and Appellate Advocacy Concentration to learn to be superior litigators.
