Electronic documents have become an essential part of the daily lives of lawyers and their clients. If you are not aware of the various legal and ethical issues associated with electronic documents, you should attend this program.
The program will impart important lessons about how to handle your clients’ electronic documents. In particular, you will learn about the proposed changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and how they will address electronic discovery and the inadvertent disclosure of privileged information. From the growing body of law concerning electronic discovery to the the dangers of electronic metadata, you will learn from a law school professor of legal ethics as well as a litigation partner about the the various practical problems caused by electronic documents.
The program will benefit solo and small firm practitioners who do not have IT staff to advise them. It will also help lawyers in big firms to identify issues about which IT staff might not be aware. Learn about the growing law and ethics associated with electronic documents and how you can ensure that you comply with the rapidly changing standards in this area. Find out how to protect your clients and yourself from the various potential risks.

Andrew Perlman

is an associate professor of law at Suffolk University Law School. He is admitted to practice in Illinois. After graduating from Harvard Law School, Professor Perlman clerked for a federal district court judge in Chicago. He then practiced as a litigation associate with the Chicago firm of Schiff Hardin & Waite, where he
worked on a range of cases, including products liability and contracts disputes. Professor Perlman subsequently became an associate-in-law at Columbia Law School, where he taught legal research and writing, conducted research on professional responsibility issues, and received his LL.M. Professor Perlman has authored a number of articles on
legal ethics, including a recent piece on the inadvertent disclosure of privileged information.

Stephen M. Prignano
|
| |
Is a partner at Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge, LLP, in Providence and a member of the Class Action & Mass Litigation Group with extensive civil litigation and trial experience in complex commercial and mass litigation. His knowledge in cutting-edge issues concerning electronic discovery and information technology is useful to clients in mass tort and complex litigation matters. Steve has litigated a wide variety of matters in state and federal courts. He has, for example, defended insurance coverage and bad faith disputes on behalf of major insurance companies, broker/dealer liability and securities claims, product liability claims on behalf of automobile, industrial equipment and component part manufacturers, financial services disputes on behalf of national banks and lenders, and intellectual property claims in a variety of contexts. He has also defended insurance sales practice claims in class actions, represented several defendants in consolidated mass tort litigation arising from a fatal nightclub fire, and successfully tried construction defect, employment subrogation, automobile defect and commercial transactions cases to verdict. Steve frequently has lectured and written on trial and appellate practice, electronic discovery and the use of digital technology at trial, as well as insurance coverage litigation, bad faith and broker dealer liability issues. |
