"Intellectual Property" is it an umbrella term for ephemeral processes of the mind, or is it analogous to clear-cut rights in tangible objects? Was the Supreme Court right in referring to a patent as a "limited monopoly"- and what's wrong with a monopoly? Can you use a trademark to gain a competitive advantage? Is a trade "secret" really secret? How many new hires realize that one of the papers in the pile the HR department pushes in front of them is a non-compete which will reduce their options for years?

In an increasingly complex world of downsizing, outsourcing, acquisitions and blood baths, companies are fighting over the greatest currency of all: creativity.

All companies grow, shrink, eat or get eaten. Failure to understand and protect a company's IP results in revenue shrinkage, a devalued price at sale time, or paying too much in an acquisition.

This seminar will explain, in laymen's terms, the difference between trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights and patents, and how these differences play out in corporate America in an increasingly global world.

After an explanation of each type of IP, its purpose and limits, we will present and work through several common business scenarios that trigger IP issues, putting the content in a valuable, real world context for the participants.

Who Should Attend:
General business attorneys and advisors, non-attorney corporate executives, sole proprietors, in-house counsel, and anyone helping run a company, no matter how small or large, should attend this program. Company leaders who understand the basic IP rules are better able to protect, enhance, and grow their organization's assets, reduce its risks, and stay employed.
