Home and other community based programs have been vastly under-utilized as a resource to assist elders in maintaining the least restrictive living arrangements. While many Elder Law attorneys have significant experience in obtaining MassHealth benefits for clients in skilled nursing facilities, a fewer number have experience in assisting elders with obtaining assistance (both financially and medically) that allows the elder to maintain the highest level of independence. Maximizing Community Benefits will focus on programs and benefits for elders whose living arrangements have them in places other than skilled nursing facilities.

This detailed program will provide you with the benefit of hearing from experienced practitioners who will present eligibility criteria (financial and clinical) for a vast array of programs. Presentations and materials will give participants the ability to begin the application process for their elder clients.

This program is designed for Elder Law attorneys whose clients struggle with financial and clinical needs as the elder strives to remain at home or in an assisted living facility.

Attend and Learn:
  • The basic criteria, both financial and clinical, for eligibility for Community Based MassHealth programs

  • How to obtain benefits for your client through the Community Based Waiver programs

  • What Medicare pays for in the community

  • What programs are available for elders in the community including PACE, Mass Home Care, Community Choice and Enhanced Adult Family Care

  • How the Group Adult Foster Care program contributes to the financial cost of Assisted Living Facilities

  • What veteran’s benefits are available for community care
