About the Program

Attorneys, clinicians and guardians ad litem handling cases involving allegations of domestic violence will benefit from attending Advanced Issues in Domestic Violence Cases. Highlighting difficult issues such as typologies, red flags and the pros and cons of screening tools, you will learn how to better represent your clients. Lisa Hartwick, M.S.W, Director, Center for Violence Prevention and Recovery, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center addresses the effect of trauma on victims of domestic violence. Particularly focusing on how trauma may impact memory, affect ability to relay information in a sequential fashion and the way parties present to investigators, evaluators and the courts.

Experienced attorneys, guardian ad litem, a mental health expert and a judge will explore, through a variety of scenarios, whether investigators and evaluations can appropriately differentiate between different typologies of interpersonal violence and what implications such differentiation might have in recommending parenting plans. The interactive format provides you with the opportunity to learn how to apply the differing perspectives to your case.
