ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The pathway to success for women attorneys is a constantly evolving and important conversation. In today’s rapidly changing world and legal marketplace, women have increasing opportunities to exercise leadership, power and influence yet obstacles remain. Leadership skills are learned by observation, discussion, taking risks and reflection. This Academy will help women learn about leadership through the inspiration of successful women who have made their mark in business, government, the judiciary and academia. They share their lessons because they all believe that one woman’s rise to the top is meaningless unless she brings others along.

Women in practice, have their own stories to tell and own perspectives from different types of practice environments. Their lessons on business development provide tips on how you can be successful no matter where you are in your career.

The studies and statistics make it clear that women in law, in government and in business have not made the gains that their numbers in the profession would indicate. Recently, Anne-Marie Slaughter in The Atlantic created a buzz in declaring that women cannot “have it all” unless our culture evolves to permit women to have meaningful careers and family life. She said, “If women are ever to achieve real equality as leaders, then we have to stop accepting male behavior and male choices as the default and the ideal. We must insist on changing social policies and bending career tracks to accommodate our choices, too.”

This Academy is about women who have achieved success, sharing their wisdom, successes and mistakes to help others and coming together for mutual inspiration and encouragement.
