STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES

Partnership Exchange Programs

Suffolk University Law School students have the unique opportunity to participate in one of three exchange agreements. Students may spend one semester at:

  • Heinrich-Heine-Universitaet (HHU) Dusseldorf, Germany
  • Universidad Panamericana Guadalajara (UPG) or
  • University of Lund, Sweden

Application Deadlines:

  • Fall 2013 semester: March 15, 2013
  • Spring 2014 semester: October 1, 2013

A number of Suffolk Students have taken advantage of these exchange programs in the past. Exchange participants will be selected based on their academic records and educational goals. Since exchange participants will act as representatives of the Law School, a student's overall appropriateness for such a role will be considered as well. 

Eligibility for the Suffolk Law HHU Scholar Program

  • Students must be in their second year (day or evening), or beyond at the time of their intended visit.
  • Students must be in good standing.
  • Fluency in German is required (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • The vast majority of classes are taught in German.

Eligibility for the Suffolk Law Lund Scholar Program

  • Students must be in their second year(day or evening), or beyond at the time of their intended visit.
  • Students must be in good academic standing.
  • Although not required, preference may be given to students who have completed European Union Law.
  • All classes are taught in English.
  • Priority is given to Suffolk students for Lund University housing, and Lund will assist on helping the student obtain this housing.

Eligibility for the Suffolk Law UPG Scholar Program

  • Students must be in their second year (day or evening), or beyond at the time of their intended visit.
  • Students must be in good standing.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required (speaking, reading, and writing).
  • The vast majority of classes are taught in Spanish.

Additional Requirements and Standards for All Suffolk Law Sponsored Exchange Programs

  • Suffolk Law School will accept up to 12 credits for courses taken at Exchange Partner Host Institution (Host).
  • Students must receive a satisfactory grade in a Host course in order to receive SULS credit.
  • Only credit, not grades will be accepted.
  • Exchange participants pay an administrative fee of $10,000 to SULS for the program, but do not pay tuition to the Host.
  • Exchange participants may apply for financial aid.
  • Exchange participants will likely want to purchase a supplementary insurance policy.

How to Apply

To apply to either exchange programs, please submit:

  • Resume
  • Letter of interest (indicating why you wish to study at HHU, UPG, or Lund)
  • Official transcript
Application must be submitted to the reception desk of the Office of Graduate and International Programs (Suite 661) or by email to bsandusky@suffolk.edu by 12 noon on March 15, 2013 for Fall 2013 or by 12 noon on October 1, 2013 for Spring 2014.
