Employment Discrimination Law

3 credits day; 3 credits evening.

This course will study the various laws prohibiting discrimination in employment, including Title VII or the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Faculty comments: This course examines the doctrines and principles of the federal law governing discrimination in employment, as set forth in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The goals of the course are to achieve familiarity with the prevailing doctrinal frameworks for applying these statutes and an understanding of the broader theories and principles underlying those frameworks. Classes will involve a mix of lecture and volunteer-based discussion. Course grade will be based on an open-book, take-home final examination and class participation.
