American Legal History - 1877 to present

This seminar will review the primary documents which integrate the history of American public and private law. Subjects will include industrialization and the beginnings of the regulatory state; changes in the law and the methods of legal though caused by the impact of government regulation, the welfare state and world wars; and recent developments concerning issues of civil rights, civil liberties, death and dying, criminal justice, environmentalism, and feminist critique of the law.
Prerequisite: Constitutional Law
