This Areas of Focus guide is being presented to Suffolk University law student to assist them in planning their program of study here at the law school, in light of their long-term career goals. The guide is intended to inform our students of the many course offerings, internships and extra-curricular activities that are likely to prove advantageous to them as preparation for practice in various areas of law.

Organizationally, the Area of Focus guide provides a descriptive summary of practice areas, identifies core courses, and makes recommendations for further course selection and skill-building activities available to our students. Each of the sections has been developed and prepared by faculty members teaching in the practice area, and is aimed at providing guidance and direction to students as they select courses, internships and pursue other related activities.

It should be noted that the Areas of Focus are not academic concentrations. The lists of courses are not intended to be all-inclusive, and there can be significant diversity in the programmatic elements chosen by particular students. The practice areas have been determined by student interest, Career Development Office surveys and information about the employment of our law graduates. These categories will be reviewed on a regular basis and enhanced with such features as faculty biographies, course descriptions, and new course offerings. Please note that not all courses listed for each category will be offered every semester or every year.
