Hon. Nancy Gertner


 S H O R T   B I O G R A P H Y

Hon. Nancy Gertner has served as a United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts since 1994. Prior to her appointment to the federal bench, Judge Gertner was a partner at Dwyer, Collora & Gertner and at Silverglate & Gertner. She has served as a visiting lecturer and visiting professor at Yale Law School and Harvard Law School. Judge Gertner has spoken widely and written extensively in such areas as individual rights, criminal sentencing, and jury trials.

Judge Gertner received an A.B. degree from Barnard College, an M.A. degree from Yale University, and a J.D. degree from Yale University. After law school she served as a law clerk in the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Judge Gertneer will co-teach Litigating Federal and State Constitutional Claims with John Reinstein, during the Spring 2009 semester.
