Study Room Policies & Procedure

POLICY:

  • Group study rooms are available to Suffolk Law students, law faculty or law alumni.
  • Study room reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis.
  • Study rooms may be reserved up to two weeks in advance.
  • Use of study rooms is limited to three hour increments per group.
  • Study rooms are reserved for group study only, i.e., two or more students.
  • The five designated large study rooms are reserved for four or more students.

PROCEDURE:

Reserving Study Rooms:

Reservations for study rooms must be made in person at the Circulation/Reserve Desk. The patron must provide the names of two members of the group. These names must be entered into the reservation logbook. The room will be reserved based on the group size and the availability of rooms.

Checking Out Study Rooms:

Two members of the group must present valid ID cards. The room is checked out on the automated system to one of the two patrons. There is a barcode designated for each study room in the reservation logbook. ID cards of the two patrons must remain in the logbook. For large study rooms, four IDs are required. A staff person or student worker will unlock the room.

Checking In Study Rooms:

When the allotted time has expired the patrons must return to the Circulation/Reserve Desk and retrieve their ID cards. The room must be checked back in on the automated system. The room may be renewed if it is available.

Additional Information:

  • Study room doors will remain unlocked while unoccupied.
  • No food is allowed. Spill proof containers are required for beverages.
  • Abuses of study rooms and violation of the study room policy may result in the revocation of study room privileges.

DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES UNATTENDED

Interlibrary loan materials are picked up here, and laptops and study rooms are signed out here.

The Circulation/Reserve Desk also has a limited number of free or discount passes to the Museum of Fine Arts, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Museum of Science, and New England Aquarium.

Reference Services

Reference librarians are available at the Reference Desk, located directly across from the entrance to the Law Library on the sixth floor. If you are looking for reference or research assistance, help in formulating Lexis or Westlaw queries, an introduction to the online library catalog, or a quick tutorial on one of the many legal databases available in the Law Library, the Reference Desk is the place to come. For more in-depth discussion of a research project, an appointment may be made with an individual reference librarian. If you cannot make it into the Law Library, reference assistance is available by phone at 617-573-8516 or via email at lawref@suffolk.edu.
