BIBLIOGRAPHY OF LAW REVIEW ARTICLES ON GUN CONTROL

Introduction

The following is a bibliography of law review articles published between 1980 and 2000, dealing with gun control. The majority of the articles listed are pulled from the Current Law Index, which is available electronically as the database LRI on Westlaw. I have excluded articles from most newspapers and newsletters. Their inclusion would have made the bibliography significantly harder to use, and would not have added significant value to the current project. There is a short index appended.

No bibliography can be absolutely comprehensive, and while the current one includes over 400 references to articles published in the last 20 years, it also includes references to a number of bibliographies. A prudent researcher would seek out those bibliographies, in addition to doing some research in the various indexes (Index to Legal Periodicals, Current Law Index, Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals, etc.) themselves.

INDEX

The following index provides a brief guide to the bibliography. Many of the topics here overlap - for example, the large number of entries under "Federalism" is due to the Gun Free School Zones act being declared an unconstitutional violation of the Commerce Clause. Anyone interested in legislative responses to violence in schools would do well to look at the references included there, in addition to the references included in Young people and guns. Very few references have been included under more than one heading: articles that deal with federalism and the Brady Act are included under the Brady Act. Articles that deal with federalism and state or local regulation are included under State and Local Law. Articles that compare U.S. policies with those of other countries are included in the Foreign and International section.
