STUDENT MENTORING PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Mentors

Mentor Action Plan

  1. Set clear expectations of preferred methods of communication and response time
  2. Discuss mentee's expectations and goals
  3. Make an effort to meet for at least 1 hour per month to keep the partnership on track
  4. Complete Evaluation Forms – sent electronically by the Alumni Relations Office

Do's and Don'ts

  • DO make every effort to keep appointments with your mentee
  • DO establish the proper methods of communication (email, phone, personal meetings)
  • DO encourage discussion
  • DO attempt to meet your mentee's needs
  • DON'T hesitate to contact your mentee if you have not heard from them in a while
  • DON'T hesitate to contact the Alumni Relations Office with questions, concerns and feedback concerning the program

Mentees

Mentee Action Plan

  1. Establish a plan with your mentor and identify goals you want to work on during the mentoring program
  2. Find out from your mentor his/her preferred methods of communication and response time.
  3. Schedule monthly meetings with them in advance.
    Meet in person at least once a month to continue the development of your relationship.
  4. Complete Evaluation Forms – sent electronically by the Alumni Relations Office

Do's and Don'ts

  • DO accept responsibility for contacting your mentor
  • DO keep appointments with your mentor and be on time
  • DO openly receive feedback from your mentor
  • DO maintain trust and confidentiality
  • DON'T expect your mentor to help you find an internship/job
  • DON'T neglect to contact your mentor
  • DO thank your mentor regularly for their assistance
